My Life, My Passions, My Loyalties

Welcome and enjoy my alternate home. Lo, you've arrived. Stay a while. Come back every once in a while, I'm constantly putting up new stuff.

Pain heals. Chicks dig scars.
Glory lasts forever

"Falco", The Replacements

You could be my someone
You could be my scene
You know that I'll protect you
From all of the obscene
I wonder what you're doing
Imagine where you are
There's oceans in between us
But that's not very far

Blurry, Puddle of Mud

They streaked the sunrise with black, soared high above the woods until they saw the hundreds of miles of endless forest and the great road hewn through it, crossing the realm. They rose until traders' wagons were only tiny lumbering insects crawling down a ribbon of dust. They dropped slowly, spiralling together, their wings beating the same slow rhythm, winding lesser and lesser rings through the sunlight until they traced one last black circle above the river. They landed among ferns on the bank, changed shape. They gazed at each other wordlessly in the morning. Raederle whispered,

"Your eyes are full of wings."
"Your eyes are full of the sun."

Harpist in the Wind by Patricia A. McKillip

"What are we to do if half those fellows hang back?"
"My own plans are made. While I can, I sail east in the Dawn Treader. When she fails me, I paddle east in my coracle. When she sinks, I shall swim east with my four paws. And when I can swim no longer, if I have not reached Aslan's country, or shot over the edge of the world in some vast cataract, I shall sink with my nose to the sunrise..."

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis

Find... glory Beyond the cheap colored lights One song... before the sun sets Glory On another empty life Time flies---time dies
Find... glory In a song that rings true Truth like a blazing fire An eternal flame
Find... one song A song about love From the soul of a young man A young man

One song Glory, RENT

What is it we all fear Reflections in the mirror We can't escape fate The end is getting nearer
Who do you believe in? I put my faith in God Blessed but still breathing And even though it's hard Thats who I believe in Before I'm leaving The mask and the grieving Who do you believe in?

Who do you believe in? ,2 Pac

So if I stand let me stand on the promise That You will pull me through And if I can't, let me fall on the grace That first brought me to You And if I sing let me sing for the joy That has born in me these songs And if I weep let it be as a man Who is longing for his home

If I stand, Rich Mullins

I believe in the sand beneath my toes The beach gives a feeling An earthy feeling I believe in the faith that grows And the four right chords can make you cry When I'm with you I feel like I could die And that would be alright

Semi-charmed Life, Third Eye Blind

Hungry children die and only Jesus cries. Feed the hungry daily.

  • Sleep deprivation is a beautiful thing. Wait, before you accuse me of being driven mad from lack of sleep, hear me out. When you are sleep deprived, every nap you take feels great; your sleep becomes more efficient and time-effective. If it's a beautiful bright day (like today), after resting your eyes and reopening them, the world becomes brighter and sharper... almost to the degree of pain. My conjecture is that just as alcohol is a depressor and causes one to lose his/her inhibition, sleep deprivation is a downer and also causes one to lose his/her inhibitions. More analogies, just as lifting weights when you're exhausted helps build stronger muscles for next time, the discipline of sleep deprivation builds character and future strength.
I have no clue what I'm talking about... no sleep sucks!

  • A good thing to keep in mind: when riding down a hill on a bike, keep your mouth firmly shut. Trust me, you don't want to be gagging and spitting repeatedly afterwards...

  • It came to me that walking for graduation before one really graduates seems very similar to attending your funeral before you die. Many similarities: passing from one stage to the next, surrounded by friends and family, being appreciated for the things you've done and the lives you've impacted in the past, flowers... People tell me it sounds a bit morbid but I think that would be a nice experience actually.

  • I was doing some homework in my room yesterday when suddenly, color splashed all over my room. The sun's rays apparently leaked through the bamboo near my window and struck a cd that I had left face up. Rainbows wreathed my bed and the mirrors in the room enhanced the colored striations. It was quite nice... I stopped doing homework just to appreciate color.

Hours later,I began struggling with the remnants of my optics theory from physics. Did the light break into the rainbow because the reflection off the cd surface polarized or ordered the light somehow? Does it have to be unpolarized white light? Especially since I haven't seen rainbows break out when light from lightbulbs strike cds. Was the deciding factor the approaching angle of light to surface? How bout the cd surface itself, was it the uniqueness of the cd surface? Maybe I'll actually pursue these questions later. Somehow I doubt it though.

  • Insignificant = not significant
    Insufficient = not sufficient
    Ingenious = creative and original
Who was the genius made that one up??

  • Ever since I first saw the movie The Birds from Alfred Hitchcock, I've been somewhat disturbed by great flocks of birds.

So I was sitting on the dirty white steps of Sproul Hall eating my Cheese N Stuff pastrami sandwich while reading the Daily Cal, when a dark shadow passes over my newspaper. I look up to see birds flocking all around me - dark chittering little ones and large off-white seagulls - circling the skies, landing on the steps around me. My attention is transfixed by a piercing screaming seagull, wings outflung and headed straight for my head. Must have been a wingspan of at least four feet... no, seven. I duck and the bird flies over me. Finally turning around, I see the cause of this madness; my poor second half of my sandwich, which i left out beside me while working on the first half, was being visciously torn apart by warring birds. The infidels picked apart the cheese and lettuce and had taken chunks of the tender bread! So with a righteous anger, I shooed away the birds; not fearing for my own safety, I bent down and rescued the poor sandwich minus the cheese and lettuce. With that, I quickly hurried away from the massacre, my sandwich in one hand and my bag in the other. And then I ate the rest of the sandwich. :P

  • Christmastime is nigh and it is now necessary to think about efficient usage of your money. One of the things I realized while driving in a car is how to create the appearance of blinking lights without actually spending the extra money paying for the blinking. If you imbedd your string of solid lights in bushes or small trees, the consequent effect on a passerbuyer (whether in a car or by foot) is that the lights appear to blink. This is due to the blocking of the light at different intervals as leaves and branches get in the way of the line of sight. Twinkle twinkle.

  • A standing version of this is quite acceptable. If the string of lights are placed in strategic positions as noted above, one can shake one's head rapidly and the lights will appear to blink in this case as well. twinkle twinkle.
(disclaimer: this version is does not appear to be compatible with short distances. why? figure out the trig...)

  • How is it that something so real and so bright one moment can pass into the shadows in such a short span of time?

  • Peals of thunder roll from the heavens. The rumbling increases, driving a bone-deep vibration through the body. Angry thunderclouds, thick and swollen, crowd the skies and pinch away the remaining blue patches. The entire sky blazes as if on fire, each blast of lightening searing images into the brain. Power... what an awesome display of power. Why not bring this power upon us, God? Why not drive out the wickedness in this world with a single word from Your lips? Why not end the evil and the suffering?

"If you would have My power fully unleashed on this world, know that you who complain about the evil and wickedness in the world around you are yourselves evil and wicked. If judgement were to fall on the world now, you would be judged and damned by your own deeds. My ways are not your ways, nor My thoughts your thoughts. My sovereign restraint is grace in and of itself. For I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that they turn from their ways and live."
    - My thoughts on God's possible response.

  • If all motion ceases (even molecular vibrations, etc), does time stop as well? If so, then is time predicated on the change in motion of something?

  • As a child, I expected much more of adult life. Socially, conversationally, things to do, places to go, goals accomplished... it's all kind of a letdown, says the 10 year old kid inside of me. Emerge Buffalo Child! Take hold of what is rightfully yours! :P
